first of i create a simple scene, using a box, a teapot, a camera.
then i changed the environment color (find it under rendering -> environment) to a light blue color.
then changed some basic settings for my renderer:
turn off default light.
trun on adaptive sampling
turn on GI
Change first bounce and second to 0.7
min / max rate to -3/-2
Hsph subdiv 30
interp.sample 30
those are usualy the basic setting is set before rendering anything out
if you do a final rendering change the first bounce preset to medium or high to get a nice result.
Well after that’s done my first render :

nice huh, well there’s more.
HDRI is a very usefull system do do some lightning and it’s good to show you guys just by showing.
so under enviroment (press 8 ) there’s a little button under environment map that says ” None” click on it and choose VrayHDRI map. next open the material edit and drag the vrayHDRI map button (from environment) to a map slot, choose instance. in the material editor load an HDRI now. i used the kitchen hdr (use google if you wanna download it somewhere
)
now render the scene :

as you can see the kitchen on the back and lighting all over the place comming from that HDRI map (very nice huh)
to show it better i added a material to the teapot, choose vray material and set the reflection color to white (100% reflective that is)
and render out

as you can see nice reflections on the teapot
well there are a couple of things you can do with vray, so popup you render dialog (f10) and goto environment parameters
there you have to two things GI and Refl/refrc settings.
now enable them both and drag from max’s enviroment dialog the HDRI map to the render dialog (see picture below)
also choose instance.
(drag them to both slots)
change the map in max’s back to None
and render away, you should get something like :

now you have a light blue background, and still the lightning comming form the HDRI map, now if you wanna have some nice reflections without the whole scene beeing affected uncheck “GI enviroment” skylight in the render dialog (first option under enviroment settings)
and hit render again
now you have something like this :

im having kinf of a problem with the box under, it kind of has these marks like if it was a material but it does not have a materia set to it, and if i try to change the material it looks the same just with a diferent colour, and the teapot itself does not look as defined as your, it looks a bit more pixelized on top specially, it has 32 segments so i think that isnt the problem, starting out with vray, hope you can help, great tutorials!
I would like to see a continuation of the topic
